There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that highlights numerous comforts accompanying the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 table games.
