There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, where casino gambling is not legal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling den, highlights 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that contains a number of conveniences aside from the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
