There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den betting is banned. Eight casinos are based in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that features a number of luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
