There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino wagering is prohibited. Eight casinos are situated in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently required to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that highlights numerous conveniences accompanying the casino, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
